The overarching objective of this project is to produce the first interdisciplinary study of emergency in political theory, integrating liberal and realist perspectives, as well as views in jurisprudence and public policy. It aims to analyse these competing theoretical perspectives and to fruitfully synthesize them into a single unifying theory of political emergency.

According to the standard scientific definition, creativity is the capacity to generate novel objects that are in some sense valuable. And it is intuitively the case that when we describe something as creative, we express tacit approval. Assuming creativity to be of positive value, many theorists and policy makers have accordingly sought ways to foster this capacity. However, there is evidence that many creative products might in fact be useless, or at worst, harmful, and that we should therefore be cautious when promoting creativity through policy reform. Indeed, the value of creativity is profoundly unclear. This project aims to rectify this lack of clarity by developing a general theory of creative value.
